Anas hoping for an election miracle

Democratic Party chairman, Anas Urbaningrum, has urged party members to work hard in the lead up to the 2014 general election.

“There could be a miracle if all the party members work hard and pull together. The party would be triumphant in 2014,” he said at a Democratic Party gathering in Jakarta late Thursday.

In his speech, Anas said miracles did sometimes happen in politics. Miracles had befallen the Democratic Party in 2004 and 2009, when the party rose to dominate national politics, he said as quoted by Antara.

However, in the past few years the party, which was founded by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, has been shaken by corruption scandals implicating several of its members, including former treasurer, Muhammad Nazaruddin and politician Angelina Sondakh.
