The Tangerang water company (PDAM) Tirta Benteng plans to expand its services by acquiring the assets of Tangerang regency’s Tirta Kerta Raharja, across the municipality.
“We have handed the proposal to the company and it will be discussed with the regency administration,” Tirta Benteng director Achmad Marju Kodri said on Friday, adding that the assets were worth Rp 200 billion (US$21 million).
He said that the proposal was made in response to mounting complaints from Tirta Kerta Raharja’s 60,000 customers in Tangerang over the company’s poor service. “The acquisition will enable Tirta Kerta Raharja to focus on its territory in the regency,” Kodri said.
Tirta Benteng has also begun pipeline installation works, financed by Bahrain-based PT Moya Indonesia. “The installation should be completed by June 2013, when we can start producing 1,000 liters of water per second,” Kodri said.
The company currently produces 500 liters of water per second to supply a total of 27,000 customers. It aims to increase its customer base to 147,000 by 2017.
