Bluebird taxi company has been granted a license by the city administration to operate in the city.
Its presence is expected to make it easier for visitors to get around during the National Games (PON) in September.
The company plans to operate about 300 cars in the city.
“Hopefully, the company will start operating before the National Games. At least it will have 50 taxis in operation by then,” Pekanbaru Mayor Firdaus said.
Firdaus said that the city lacked investors interested in the transportation sector, including taxis.
He said that the presence of Bluebird would help encourage other taxi operators in Pekanbaru to improve their services.
“As for the flag fall, we have notified taxi operators not to raise their flag fall because we have set the rate,” he said.
