The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) says it will summon Buol
Regent Amran Batipulu as a suspect in a graft case surrounding the issuance of
a permit for a plantation company owned by businesswoman Hartati Murdaya.
“We have sent the letter. He will be questioned as a suspect in the
case,” said KPK vice chairman Bambang Widjajanto at the commission’s
headquarters in Jakarta
on Thursday.
He also emphasized that if Amran refused to obey the summons, the
commission could use force to bring him to the session.
In a separate statement, KPK spokesman Johan Budi said that
questioning of Amrin would be conducted next week, but declined to reveal the
exact day.
He also reported that the KPK had written to the immigration office
at the Law and Human Rights Ministry to request travel bans against Totok
Lestiyo, Sukirno and Kirana Wijaya from PT Hardaya Inti Plantation to
facilitate the investigation into the case. (nvn)
