New Zealand to send 185 to London Games
New Zealand has finalized the selection of its Olympics contingent and will send 185 athletes to the London Games.
The selection on Monday of decathlete Brett Newdick and heptathlete Sarah Cowley means New Zealand will send a team to London that exactly equals in size the team it sent to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The New Zealand Olympic Committee set July 8 as the deadline by which athletes had to qualify for selection.
NZOC secretary general Kereyn Smith said "London will be a significant games for New Zealand. We anticipate that with 185 athletes we'll be among the top 20 largest teams at the games."
