The Jakarta Police in cooperation with the Jakarta Elections Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) will monitor the process of cleaning up the capital from gubernatorial election campaign material during the three-day period ahead of the elections.

“We have contacted the campaign teams of six pairs of the gubernatorial candidates to rid the city from the campaign material. No campaign attire is allowed on the election day,” Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said on Monday.

The elections are scheduled to be held on Wednesday.

The spokesman also said that officers would conduct more frequent patrols during the process to clean up the campaign material over fears of possible clashes between supporters from different candidates.

The Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) has told all campaign teams to clean up the city from any campaign material starting Monday.

KPU Jakarta member Sumarno said that if the campaign teams did not clean up the city, officers from the Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) and the Pawaslu would do the job.

“During the three-day period, all gubernatorial candidate pairs are barred from doing any campaign activities. No campaign material is also allowed to be seen 200 meters from polling stations,” Sumarno said as quoted by tribunnews.com. (riz)
