Police ensures peaceful Jakarta gov elections

National Police Chief Gen. Timur Pradopo pledges that the upcoming Jakarta gubernatorial election will be conducted without any disruptions and security threats.
“We will guard the elections, starting from the time of voting at polling stations, the delivery of the polling boxes until the final count,” Timur told reporters at the Merdeka Palace on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.
Personnel from the Indonesian Military (TNI) will also be deployed to help the police maintain order on that day, Timur said.
Around seven million voters are expected to participate in the election which will be held on July 11, starting from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. The result of the elections is scheduled to be announced a week afterwards. (fzm)
