JAKARTA: Rujak Center for Urban Studies has created an encyclopedic web site aimed at providing insightful information about Jakarta.
The website, which is named Rujak Wiki and can be accessed at wiki.rujak.org, contains entries outlining regulations, policies and significant events occurring in the capital. Previously, the center launched klikjkt.or.id, a website where residents can file complaints about the city.
In Rujak Wiki, people could access history from news paper clippings like riots in 1998 or lists of evictions in 2002. It also feature articles ranging from green/open space, mini-market invasion, water privatization, culinary tourism and developments of fly overs and underpasses.
Elisa said that the team would gradually add the data as Rujak had while polishing up the site. “When people know more about their cities, they would be more aware.”
The center has been carrying out a number of programs to raise people’s awareness on the problems plaguing Jakarta and help them get to know their city better. Next week, Elisa said, the center will launch a tour program to Bantar Gebang landfill and Rawasari waste treatment facility.
