National Police’s Densus 88 counterterrorism unit arrested two men, allegedly members of terrorist group Jamaah Ansharut Tauhid (JAT), who were suspected of having been involved in a shooting of two police officers last year.
The two men, identified as Naim, a resident of Gebangrejo village and Abdul, a resident of Kilo village in Poso, were apprehended at Poso Central traditional market, Central Sulawesi, on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. local time.
The police suspected Naim served as a financier and liaison, connecting the JAT Poso chapter to other JAT groups in Banda Aceh, Aceh; Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, Jakarta; Lamongan, East Java; Medan, North Sumatra; Surakarta, Central Java and to a JAT group in East Kalimantan.
Central Sulawesi Police chief Brig. Gen. Dewa Parsana confirmed the arrest.
“We are currently interrogating them. We suspect them of being involved in the shooting of two police officers in front of a Bank Central Asia (BCA) office branch on Jl. Emi Saelan, Palu last year,” Dewa said, as quoted by kompas.com.
