With the new moon set to make its appearance next week, Muslims worldwide will welcome the holy month of Ramadhan, during which time the faithful must refrain from worldly pleasures from dawn till dusk in their commitment to their faith.
The fasting month is also a moment to strengthen relations between people and communities. Muslim fashion designer and fashion blogger Dian Pelangi will hold “Sisterhood”, a series of events to bring together her readers and the community.
The event will take place from July 14 to 15 at fX Sudirman, and includes events such as a bazaar, hijab (headscarf) tutorial class, workshop, dinner as well as a book launch. The bazaar will be open for the public from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and will feature various Muslim fashion brands from Indonesia and abroad. Other events require a reservation; contact Dara on 081294489981 or Lady on 0818633736.
Blogger Martha Puri Natasande is holding a special workshop on making animal puppets for kids on July 15 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Alun-alun Indonesia, Grand Indonesia Shopping Mall. To attend the event, register with Melinda on (021) 5700669 ext 197, or 085781887723, or 08989826801. For more information, e-mail: admin.kids@alunalunindonesia.com.
Prameshwari “Amesh” Budiristio, also a blogger, is holding a Do-It-Yourself workshop for both mothers and children entitled “Circus Party in A Box” on July 14 at 1/15 Coffee, Jl. Gandaria I No. 63. Children will enjoy cutting and coloring while the mothers can sew. Due to limited places available, please register with Amesh at: adreamesh@yahoo.com.
As the upcoming month will be a time to visit friends, families and relatives, it would also be wise to stock up on all the necessities for festive moments at Festival Pernak – Pernik & Jajanan Betawi (Betawi Knick-Knacks and Snack Festival) at Sarinah department store’s North Lobby, Jl. MH Thamrin Jakarta. The festival will end on July 14.
Completing your shopping before Ramadhan is a wise thing to do, instead of doing last-minute purchases. Make the most of the final days of the Jakarta Great Sale, ending on July 14, and the last day of the Jakarta Fair on July 15. +Tifa Asrianti
