The House of Representatives’ (DPR) ethics council has temporarily suspended Wa Ode Nurhayati as a lawmaker. Ethics council member Ali Maschan Musa made the announcement before a House plenary meeting on Friday.

“We have decided to dismiss her [Wa Ode] as she has been named a suspect in a graft case,” he said.

Wa Ode, a lawmaker from the National Mandate Party (PAN) and once a member of the House budget committee, is currently on trial for bribery and money laundering surrounding deliberations on the 2011 Regional Infrastructure Adjustment Fund (DPID).

Meanwhile, council chairman M. Prakosa acknowledged that the ethics council also discussed the status of Democratic Party lawmaker Angelina Sondakh, who is being detained by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). But, he refused to reveal the outcome.

Angelina, a former beauty queen, is a suspect in the misappropriation of budget allocations at the Education and Culture Ministry and the Youth and Sports Ministry.
