AKARTA: The city’s Law and Human Rights Agency revealed over the weekend that a prison guard at Cipinang penitentiary may be fired for his involvement in a drug network controlled by one of the prison’s inmates.
“We are waiting for a decision from the police [regarding the investigation]. The heaviest penalty the warden may have to face is to be fired,” agency chief Irsyad Bustaman said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
The police revealed earlier last week that a warden identified as MY was arrested on Friday at a restaurant in Jatinegara, East Jakarta.
“We seized 200 grams of crystal methamphetamine from his car,” city police narcotics directorate chief Sr. Comr. Nugroho Aji said on Sunday.
Subsequent police investigations found that the crystal meth belonged to Cipinang inmate HY, who gave the drugs to MY and told him to distribute it to AL and IW outside the penitentiary.
HY, AL and IW had also been arrested. The police have also confiscated an additional 50 grams of crystal meth and 11 cell phones allegedly used by HY to communicate with his network from behind bars.
