he Indonesian Navy is organizing a military exercise for the marines in its effort to boost the capability of personnel, especially in amphibian tank landing.
“This exercise is aimed at improving the readiness of mariners in warfare situations. We will soon have a joint exercise with mariners from Thailand,” marines commander Maj. Gen. (Mar) Alfan Baharuddin said in Pesawaran regency, Lampung, on Tuesday.
As many as 1,735 mariners joined in the exercises, which include attacks, defense, ambush, infantry tank collaboration, logistics distribution, treatment of prisoners of war and mine sweeping.
Three warships have been deployed for the military exercise, namely KRI Banda Aceh, KRI Ambonia and KRI Bone.
Antara news agency reported the exercise began at 6:45 a.m. with the landing of amphibian tanks at Caligi Beach in the regency. Ten PT-76 tanks landed first, followed by 10 BMP-3F tanks and amphibian tanks.
Afterward, the exercise was followed with the landing of 18 rubber boats, one landing craft utility and four artillery-carrying vehicles.
