The South Sulawesi provincial administration has ensured the supplies of basic necessities, particularly staple foods and fuel ahead of the fasting month of Ramadhan.
Basic needs supplies, such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, flour, milk and margarine, are claimed to be adequate to meet the needs of people in the province, said South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo. He also ensured the steady supply of fuel like premium gasoline, diesel and LPG.
Sugar stock, which was scarce over the past month with its price soaring to Rp 15,000 (US$1.60) per kilogram, is guaranteed to be safe, Syahrul added.
He also said he had instructed every industry and trade office, from provincial to regency/mayoralty levels, to monitor sugar prices to ensure steady supplies.
“If the condition worsens, we will form a special team to supervise distribution at the retailer’s level,” said Syahrul, adding that the administration was ready to organize market operation to curb staple food prices.
