UNDP gives AIDS fund management to KPA

The UNDP officially turned over management of the Indonesian Partnership Fund for HIV and AIDS (IPF) to the National AIDS Commission (KPA) on Thursday.

Speaking after the hand-over ceremony at the Health Ministry, UNDP resident representative El-Mostafa Benlamlih said the KPA would now have full capacity to donor resources to tackle the spread of the disease.

“The commission will have not only full capacity to use the funds, but must also report on the use of the resources in a very efficient and accountable way,” Benlamlih told The Jakarta Post.

The UNDP has been the fund’s manager since 2005, responsible for US$56.4 million donated by the UK, AusAID and USAID.

“We’d also like to see more contributions provided to the IPF by non-traditional donors, including the private sector, through corporate social responsibility programs,” Benlamlih said said.
