New $6.5m NTU facility to give researchers better tools to study bacteria

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has teamed up with optics company Carl Zeiss to develop new ways to observe bacteria.

Their new $6.5 million Advanced Biofilm Imaging Facility will give researchers new and better tools, with the aim of seeing how bacteria interact in real time.

'If we know their mechanics and language, we can interfere with them,' said Professor Yehuda Cohen, deputy director of NTU's Singapore Centre on Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (Scelse), which is partnering Carl Zeiss to launch the facility.

Carl Zeiss will provide Scelse with advanced imaging tools such as high resolution and high sensitivity laser scanning systems, and work with the centre to come up with new and customised machines.
