Seven named suspects in Pekojan gang brawl

The police named seven suspects on Wednesday in the brawl between rival mass organizations in Pekojan, West Jakarta.

“The suspects were found to have violated Article 170 of the KUHP [Criminal Code] on forceful attack with the intent to inflict harm, as well as Article 55, on participating in a crime,” Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto told reporters.

The suspects face up to seven years’ imprisonment if found guilty.

Three suspects identified only as L, A, M were among the 15 Betawi Brotherhood Forum (FBR) members who were detained immediately after the gang members attacked a guard post Pekojan that they mistakenly believed was operated by Pemuda Pancasila, a rival organi-zation, the police said.

An additional three suspects identified only as R, D, and T remain at large, while police declined to divulge the initial of the seventh subject.

The police confiscated a host of weapons when breaking up the violence, including 71 arrows, 45 motorbikes, 15 machetes, five slingshots, four crossbows and two sickles.

The case is still under investigation by the West Jakarta Police.
