Your comments on the red-handed arrest of the head of the Bogor tax
office, Anggrah Suryo, for allegedly accepting a bribe of US$31,800,
extending the list of tax officers recently arrested for graft:
Disgraced official: Bogor tax office director Anggrah Suryo is escorted by officers of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) after his interrogation at the antigraft body. He was arrested after allegedly being caught red-handed accepting a US$31,800 bribe. Antara/Rosa Panggabean
Corruption is so rampant in tax offices. Anggrah Suryo will not be the last person caught red-handed. Yet more others will be caught because bribery in tax offices is rampant.
Bribery is not about the government’s tax reform efforts; it’s about morality of the person. After all, Koran procurement has also been subjected to corruption.

Anggrah Suryo was caught for graft. He is just another tax officer who has been arrested. Regrettably, however, that will not deter other tax officials from committing the crime because it has already become a habit for many of them.
Many of them are still practicing corruption and looking for other ways to continue their habit.

Tax offices have been the enemy of people all over the world for thousands of years. Even if the death penalty were introduced, it would never deter people, be they tax officials or perpetrators of other crimes.
