The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) questioned Artalyta “Ayin” Suryani at the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore on Monday as a witness in a case of alleged graft involving the Buol Regent Amran Batalipu and businesswoman Hartati Murdaya, owner of PT Hardaya Inti Plantation.
Embassy spokesman Simon D.I. Soekarno told The Jakarta Post that the questioning was carried out by two KPK investigators from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time (9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jakarta time) at a room in the embassy on No. 7 Chatsworth Rd.
Artalyta was accompanied by her lawyer.
“The KPK sent us a letter asking us to provide a room for this session. It’s only for today [Monday] and there were no other requests to question Ayin here. We are also not aware of the questions asked,” Simon said after the questioning.
He added that the embassy did not have any information on Ayin’s activities in Singapore because it was not an obligation for a citizen to report his or her activities abroad to the embassy.
“I don’t know about her activities in Singapore, whether she was hospitalized, in which hospital, or whatever,” Simon said.
The embassy refused to comment on how Artalyta could have left for Singapore after her conditional release from prison in a separate case.
“Whether she is on a list of banned persons or not after her conditional release, please ask the [Indonesian] immigration office,” he said. (fzm)
