A group of eight armed robbers shot a security guard when they broke into an office branch of state-owned pawnshop, PT Pegadaian, in Ciracas, East Jakarta, on Friday morning.

According to Ciracas Police precinct chief, Comr. Senen, the robbers entered the premises at around 10 a.m. after parking their motorcycles 50 meters away. With helmets still on their heads, they forced their way into the shop’s depository.

During the incident, they shot security guard Sigit Maryono, 33, and hit a cashier, Andi M, 31, with a blunt object. Both of them are currently being treated at the Pasar Rebo Regional Hospital in South Jakarta.

The police have yet to disclose the amount of financial loss suffered by the pawnshop.

“We have not figured out what they took from the pawnshop,” Senen said, as quoted by kompas.com.

Meanwhile, detectives from East Jakarta Police and Ciracas Police are continuing their investigations at the scene. (riz/iwa)
