The Jakarta Police said on Thursday that they had confiscated 141 guns, comprising 49 firearms and 92 airsoft guns, and tens of thousands of bullets and more than 200,000 firecrackers, in the first nine days of a citywide operation against firearms and explosives, which started on July 17 and will end on Aug. 5.
“Most of the guns were confiscated because their permits had expired. Three of them, however, were homemade and used by criminals,” police chief of operations Sr. Comr. Agung Budi Maryoto announced, adding that five of the airsoft guns were confiscated from unlicensed stores.
Forty-one of the 49 firearms were handguns and the remaining eight rifles. Meanwhile, of the 92 airsoft guns, 36 were handguns and 56 rifles.
The police also seized 1,736 live bullets, 57,506 airsoft gun bullets and 200,248 firecrackers. The firecrackers were handmade in various factories in Tangerang municipality, Tangerang regency, Bekasi regency, Central Jakarta and Depok, Agung said.
