The Jakarta Police revealed on Thursday that they had arrested two other suspects for their alleged involvement in a failed attempt to mug and rape a female passenger in a public minivan in Gambir, Central Jakarta, late Monday.

“The two suspects were arrested in Cirebon, West Java, this [Thursday] morning at 7:30,” police chief Insp. Gen. Untung S. Rajab announced.

The police identified the suspects only as S, 27, and NS, 19. Another person, AA, was arrested early Tuesday. Two other suspects are still at large.

Office worker Is, 31, reported the case not long after midnight on Tuesday after the three suspects and two other men reportedly tried to mug and rape her in a C-01 public minivan, or angkot, near Lapangan Banteng in Central Jakarta. The attempt failed when they were noticed by a passing Army Special Forces (Kopassus) soldier who gave chase.

While S, NS and the two other as-yet-unidentified suspects managed to run away, AA was quickly arrested and detained at the Central Jakarta Police station. The police have charged him with felony theft and indecency. He could face up to nine years in prison if proven guilty.
