The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) has announced that the Health Ministry has made improvements in its bookkeeping for 2011 and has been granted a qualified opinion after two years of a disclaimer of opinion.
The BPK, however, has also discovered financial irregularities worth Rp 155.21 billion (US$16.45 million) in the Health Ministry’s 2011 financial report.
“The total amount of irregularities in the ministry’s 2011 financial report was less than Rp 267.85 billion and this is considered acceptable.
And that’s why we gave the qualified opinion,” said BPK commissioner Rizal Djalil.

The ministry is to be commended for its efforts. Considering how plagued with corruption it was (and still is), such improvements must not have been easy to achieve. Let’s hope that the new health minister will make even more breakthroughs and be a good example herself.

Does that mean that we will hear of corruption every other day instead of daily?
