Jakarta administration will begin relocating Lebak Bulus bus terminal in South Jakarta in September, as part of a plan to transform the current bus terminal into a central depot for the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT).

Udar Pristono, head of the city transportation agency, said Friday that the city would wait for the end of the Idul Fitri exodus and influx in late August.

“We don’t want to disturb the annual mass movement,” Udar said.

The bus terminal will be torn down and relocated to make way for a multi-story depot which will be integrated with an MRT station, Transjakarta bus shelter and an inner-city bus terminal.

The company plans to have the initial 15.5 kilometers of MRT track, plying the Lebak Bulus-Hotel Indonesia traffic circle route, in operation by 2016.
