Jakarta most active Twitter city: study

A recent study conducted by Paris-based social media consultant Semiocast reported that Jakartans were the most active Twitter users and posted 2 percent of the 10.6 billion tweets worldwide.

Semiocast revealed its study on Monday and said that Jakarta Twitter users surpassed London and Tokyo, which were listed respectively as the second and the third most active Twitter city.

In the results of the study, which can be publicly accessed through www.semiocast.com, Bandung was named as the 6th most active Twitter city, higher than Paris, Osaka and Istanbul.

Globally, Semiocast reported that Twitter had reached the half billion accounts in June 2012, including more than 140 million in the US alone. New York was the most active Twitter city in the US, followed by Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami.

User-base growth is slowing in Japan and Korea but increasing in Arab-spoken countries. Riyadh already ranks in the 10th most active Twitter city.

Indonesia has nearly 30 million Twitter users, 5th biggest country after the US, Brazil, Japan and the UK. (lfr)
