Fake bank notes in Malang up 54%

The Bank
Indonesia (BI) branch office in Malang, East
Java, found that the circulation of fake banknotes in Malang increased by 54.72 percent in the
first half of 2012 when compared to the previous period.
The number of
fake notes in the first half of the year increased to 2,553 from 1,650 last
year.
“While the value
increased by 2.34 percent,” BI Malang office head Totok Herminyanto was quoted
as saying by kompas.com on
Thursday.
From January to
June, the bank reported that the total value of fake notes reached Rp 217
million (US$ 23,000) from 2,553 notes.
The highest value
in circulation was in January, amounting to Rp 49 million, while the lowest was
in March, amounting to Rp 28 million. (fzm)
