Eighty ships that are participating in the 2012 Sail Morotai sailing rally have arrived in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), before they depart to North Maluku.
The Sail Morotai rally is part of the annual Sail Indonesia event that began 12 years ago.
During their stop in Kupang, the ships will visit 12 locations in Timor Island, Flores and Sumba.
“The last location they will visit is Komodo National Park,” NTT Tourism and Creative Industry Agency head Abraham Klakik said on Thursday.
He said the participants had arrived in Kupang on Monday and will stay until Aug. 4.
The participants are from the likes of Australia, the US, UK, New Zealand, the Netherlands and Africa.
Head of facility and promotion section at the NTT Tourism and Creative Economy Agency Bonavontura M Rumat said the Sail Morotai participants officially departed from Darwin, Australia, with a total of 132 ships from 22 countries.
“They were divided into two teams that will enter Indonesia from the east and west. The eastern team will enter from Saumlaki, Banda, Buru, Ternate, Wakatobi and Takabonerate Island while the entry point for the western team is Kupang. Both teams will meet in Labuan Bajo, NTT, in September,” Bonavontura said. (iwa)
