The South Jakarta Police say that officers have detained seven suspects in the bullying case involving the hazing of five first-year students at Don Bosco high school.
“They have been placed in the juvenile facility at Salemba Penitentiary,” South Jakarta detective unit chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Hermawan said as quoted by kompas.com.
Six of the suspects, all 17 years old, were seniors, while another suspect identified GC, was a dropout.
According to Hermawan, the arrests were made after the suspects told investigators that bullying first-year statements was “natural” and not a criminal offense. “We fear that the suspects might repeat the offense. The victims, as well their parents, already suffer from trauma. Another reason [for the detention] was that one of the suspects tried to eliminate evidence in the case,” he said, declining to elaborate.
The victims reportedly suffered from bruises and cigarette burns.
