Surakarta (Solo), Central Java, has been chosen to host the 30th annual conference of the Federation for Asian Culture Promotion (FACP), held from Sept. 6 to 9.
“Solo has developed its image as a city of culture, so that is the reason why it was chosen to host the conference,” Winur Miranti of the conference’s organizing committee said.
Some 500 participants from Asia Pacific countries including Indonesia, China, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, Korea and Japan are expected to take part in the conference, which will also be attended by delegates from other continents including the US, the UK, Georgia and Canada.
The FACP focuses on activities and efforts to preserve art and cultural performances in the Asia Pacific region.
Senior journalist and author Gunawan Mohamad and noted movie director Garin Nugroho are among the figures expected to deliver keynote speeches at the conference.
A special performance of the dance drama Matah Ati is also scheduled to be performed during the event.
