State-owned construction firm PT Adhi Karya is set to establish a 13-kilometer monorail with a total investment of Rp 3.7 trillion (US$392.2 million), the company’s president director said on Wednesday.
The monorail will connect Tanah Abang, Kuningan and the Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD), with the capacity to carry 77,500 passengers per day.
The president director Kiswodarmawan said that 30 percent of the budget will be derived from internal cash, and the remaining from bank loans.
The company will collaborate with state toll road operator PT Jasa Marga, state electricity firm PT PLN and the Jakarta administration on the project.
“We will have a consortium of state-owned companies and the Jakarta government, and a consortium of state-owned banks,” he said in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara news agency.
The monorail will be constructed within 2.5 years, commencing operations by 2015.
“The monorail will cost Rp 9,500 per passenger. If [the service] is subsidized, it will be Rp 9,000 [per person],” he added.
The monorail, which consists of 16 stations, will connect to the Mass Rapid Transportation (MRT) Dukuh Atas – Istora Senayan route, and commuter trains at Dukuh Atas [Central Jakarta], he added. (yps)
