Julia Perez: (Kompas/Ichsan Suhendra)
Actress and dangdut singer Julia “Jupe” Perez did a pole dance at the Kuningan intersection, South Jakarta on Tuesday night, in order to fulfill a promise.
In her Twitter account, Jupe had promised to do the dance if she got 1 million followers.
“Jupe promises to dance at a red light if [she] gets a million followers! Allah, please make it happen during this fasting month, so I can dance with my clothes on,” she said in her account, @juliaperrez, on Aug. 1
Within a week, her wish came true.
Donning a tight suit and a black leather jacket, Jupe moved sensually around the pole of a traffic light at the intersection.
Dozens of motorcyclists and onlookers swarmed around her, some of them recorded the action using cell phones.
“A nazar [promise] has been fulfilled. I feel so embarrassed, but it needed to be done,” she said after dancing.
“If [I’d danced] after the fasting month, I would have worn a mini skirt. But, [a million followers] was reached during the fasting month. It’s okay, at least I have broken my fast,” she chuckled. The singer apologized to anyone who felt offended by her actions.
“Hopefully I’ve hurt no one’s feelings; my intention was just to dance to keep my promise.”
Prior to Jupe’s action, in 2009, film director Joko Anwar performed a jaw-dropping act to keep a promise.
Only an hour after posting "If I get my 3000th follower today, I'll go into a Circle K [convenience store] naked", the director racked up more than 3,000 followers.
And so naked he went into a Circle K in Bintaro, Tangerang, in the middle of the night. (yps)
