5.6-magnitude earthquake shakes Lombok

An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale struck Lombok and Mataram in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on Thursday at around 6 p.m., the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage caused.
The quake’s epicenter was 81 kilometers southeast of Mataram, at a depth of 77 kilometers. According to the BMKG website, the earthquake did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami.
The earthquake was also felt by people living in Sumbawa Besar in NTB and Nusa Dua in Bali. Residents in Central Lombok felt two strong earth tremors, kompas.com reported.
People living in West Sumbawa spontaneously left their breaking-the-fast meals and ran outside their homes when they felt the ground shaking. (riz)
