Bekasi minimarket robbed, Rp 43m stolen

Police say that robbers struck an Alfamart minimarket in Bintara Jaya in Bekasi, West Java, early on Thursday morning.
“The minimarket was robbed by five as-yet-unidentified men who walked off with Rp 43.1 million [US$4,568.60] in cash along with six cell phones and a wallet belonging to the store’s clerks,” Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said on Thursday.
The robbers reportedly arrived at the minimarket in two cars. They barged in to the store and held six clerks at knife point, demanding they open the store’s safe, according to the police.
One of the clerks, AS, was beaten for resisting the robbers, who then tied up the clerks before opening the safe.
Another clerk, AI, got loose of his bonds and fled out the store’s back door, calling for help. Residents arrived soon thereafter, although the robbers had already made good their escape.
The case is under investigation by the Bekasi Police, who are supervised by the Jakarta Police.
