Local residents have complained about the frequent blackouts in Palu, Central Sulawesi during Ramadhan, saying that the state-owned electricity company, PT PLN, had broken its promise to not cut power in the city during the fasting month.

“PLN announced in the newspapers and on the radio that there would be no blackouts during Ramadhan. But, the fact is, power cuts have occurred during the last four days. This is very annoying,” said Aminah Faisal Attamimi, 38, on Thursday.

The head of the diesel power station (PLTD) for Silae, Dolfi Rauf, said the blackouts had been caused by some problems with the electric generator.

“We apologize for the inconvenience. We hope there will be no further blackouts in the future,” said Dolfi.

He said that PLN technicians had fixed the generator, ensuring that the 25-megawatt machines at the PLTD were able to supply electricity for residents in the city.
