JAKARTA: The rainy season will start in October or November for most of Indonesia, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has predicted.
The BMKG said that 65.2 percent of the country would experience normal levels of rainfall similar to that received over last 30 years, while 31.6 percent of the nation would have less rainfall than usual.
BMKG spokesman Taufan Maulana said over the weekend that the forecast was based on observations of climate phenomena such as El Niño and La Niña, which affect weather conditions in central and eastern Indonesia.
El Niño’s effect on Indonesia this year would be “insignificant”, Taufan said.
