CILACAP: A search was underway for three people who were reportedly missing from a southern Cilacap waters in Central Java on Saturday and Sunday in two different areas.
The missing people are Heri Sukendar aka Utang bin Sijan, 38, a resident of Pondok Gede Bekasi; Misno Husein, 30, a resident of West Java’s Cirebon; and an 8-year-old boy named Tio, who lived in South Cilacap.
The three people are believed to have drowned in the waves.
As for Tio, it is said the boy was swimming with six other children, aged between 7 and 12 in Teluk Penyu Beach at around 9 a.m.
Six of them managed to be rescued even though one of them sustained minor injury, while Tio was gone missing.
“We are still conducting a search around the scene,” said Nurul Fauzan, an official of the Cilacap branch of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), as quoted by Antara news agency on Sunday.
Earlier, a fisherman was found dead on Saturday night when a ship, KM Anjani Jaya, overturned off the coast of Cilacap due to high tidal waves.
Anjani Maksudi, a fisherman, was found floating by other fishermen near the Nusakambangan Island.
South Cilacap district head Yuni Kustowo said that Anjani was still alive when his body was discovered, but he died not long after he was rescued.
The Cilacap branch of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) had previously warned on the potential 3 to 4-meter waves that hit the southern parts of Central Java and Yogyakarta, suggesting fishermen in the areas not to catch fish by using small boats.
