A- A A+

Paper Edition | Page: 8

Your comments on the celebration of Indonesia’s 67th Independence Day, amid the struggle to address the nation’s various problems, and what makes you proud to be Indonesian:

With regard to the 67th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, me and my generation are proud to be Indonesian, because we were blessed with the opportunity to join in the struggle for the independence of our country.

At present, however, we are disappointed, because due to weak leadership (although we are enjoying temporary economic strength) our national spirit and solidarity is at its lowest.

Corruption is becoming a nationwide habit.

But we should keep our optimism, hopefully in the coming years strong leaders will be born to lead our country to achieve a just and prosperous society.

Indonesia will celebrate its 67th Independence Day on Aug. 17, but the country is also struggling to address its various problems: corruption, human right abuses, poverty and poor security conditions, especially in the capital.

If we could live together in harmony with our neighbors without discrimination in regards to race, religion or ethnicity, then I would become prouder to be an Indonesian.

Happy birthday to my beloved country.

I was born in Sabang and grew up in Jakarta.

I am now working in the capital and have had the opportunity to holiday in many parts of Indonesia, and we used Bahasa Indonesia to communicate wherever we travelled.

That made me proud to be Indonesian.

After 67 years of the Independence, Indonesia has made much progress. I am very proud to be Indonesian because our government has solved many problems.

Nowadays, we can live in harmony and peace. Every sector is improving: education, economy, politics
and so on. I do hope our government can address all the injustice in
the country.

Hopefully, my dreams will come true. Long live Indonesia! Keep on progressing!

What makes me proud to be Indonesian is that we didn’t have our freedom handed to us; we fought for it.

I’m proud of the various culture in this country. I wish younger generations would feel the same.

I care. How about you?
