A director with coal producer PT Adaro Energy, Andre Mamuaya, has died in a motorcycle incident after hitting a guard rail on Jl. Sudirman in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.
He was trying to avoid a car from hitting his Ducati bike.
The bike, with license plate number B 5555 XS, was allegedly speeding when a Kijang Innova car with license plate number B 1348 PKP, tried to turn left, according to the Jakarta Police’s law enforcement sub-directorate chief, Adj. Sr. Comr. Sudarmanto.
“The Innova car was about to turn left to enter the Plaza Central building, and claimed to have turned on an indicator to do so. But the Ducati bike attempted to take over,” Sudarmanto said.
Sudarmanto said the police were still trying to find witnesses who could describe the incident.
“We do not yet understand the precise circumstances of the incident. We are still trying to gather information from witnesses,” he said.
Andre allegedly misjudged taking over the Innova and ended hitting the car’s bumper. He was allegedly thrown from his bike and his head smashed into a flower pot on the side of Jl. Sudirman.
Andre was rushed to Siloam Semanggi Hospital and was declared dead due to internal bleeding at around 12 p.m.
Andre is survived by his wife and two sons, one 8-years-old and the other 9-years-old.
Donald, his wife’s chauffeur, said Andre’s wife was in Singapore and received the news at 10 a.m. local time. She has now arrived at the hospital.
According to her, the body will be buried at the San Diego Hills cemetery in Karawang, West Java.
Donald said Andre always liked roaming around the city with his motorcycle, usually with five to 10 of his other friends, including Donald himself.
Andre's body will be laid to rest at his family’s house on Jl. Taman Patra III in South Jakarta. (aml/fzm)
