The police said on Monday that a man reported his car was stolen while attending a blood donation event at the residence of Golkar Party deputy chairman Agung Laksono on Jl. Cipinang Cempedak, Jatinegara, East Jakarta.

“The incident took place at 10 a.m. this morning,” East Jakarta Police’s chief of detectives, Adj. Sr. Comr. Dian Perry, was quoted by tempo.com.

The victim, identified as Khalid Karin, said that he parked his silver Xenia minivan around 50 meters from Agung’s house. The police said he thought about installing the steering-wheel lock, but decided not to as he considered the area safe with so many other blood donors also being parked around.

Dian said that the number of vehicle thefts and burglaries tended to increase on the first few days after Idul Fitri holidays.

“We ask residents to remain vigilant. Park your vehicles in official parking areas, and lock the steering wheel,” he said.
