Singer Syaharani spent Idul Fitri in Berlin away from friends and family.

She left for Germany last Thursday to perform at three events: the celebration of Independence Day for Indonesia, Idul Fitri and a birthday celebration for the Indonesian embassy in Berlin.

“I have to perform at these events,” she said as quoted by kompas.com. The events were confirmed only two weeks before Idul Fitri, which fell on Aug. 19 this year, and Syaharani had already made plans to spend the big day with her mother, who lives in Perth.

However, her mother remained supportive of her performing. “Remembering that makes me sad. My mother never wants to disappoint me,” she said.
