Jakarta Traffic Police deputy director Adj. Sr. Comr. Wahyono said on Tuesday that 250 officers would be deployed and a traffic diversion would be set up to control traffic around Ragunan Zoo in South Jakarta during the Islamic holiday of Idul Fitri, as more than a 100,000 people were heading to the zoo every day, causing congestion in the vicinity.
On Tuesday alone, the zoo accommodated over 140,000 visitors.
Wahyono told The Jakarta Post over the phone that motorists would not be allowed to enter Jl. RM Harsono, where the zoo is located, while the Transjakarta rapid transit buses would not be able to stop inside the zoo as usual and have to take and alight passengers at a makeshift stop in Jl. Mangga Sari in Warungjati Barat. The bus stop is about 1 kilometer from the zoo.
“The traffic detour starts at 6 a.m. until the zoo’s closing hour at 5 p.m., only during the holiday,” he said.
