The Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) has called on the management of resorts to improve safety for visitors, especially during festive holidays.

“There are two main problems that holidaymakers encounter: the safety while using transportation and the facilities at resort areas,” YLKI executive chairman Sudaryatmo said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to him, few resort managers have implement proper safety procedures including whether facilities in the resort area are operable or not.

Only infrequently does management provide visitors with emergency evacuation procedures, he added.

Sudaryatmo added the resort should include insurance in each entry ticket to any tourist sites.

“Including insurance in the ticket price, would be useful to consumers or visitors,” he was quoted as having said by Antara news agency.

Most importantly, he said, resort operators should not just aim to collect profits but should put consumer safety as a high priority.
