Earthquake hits Lake Toba

Medan: A 5.1-magnitude earthquake hit the Lake Toba tourism area in Toba Samosir regency, North Sumatra, on Monday afternoon.
No reports on fatalities or damages were available, but the tremors did frighten local residents.
Data and Information head of the Medan office of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, Hendra Suwarta, said that the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 140 kilometers to the northwest of the lake. It was reported to have no potential to trigger a tsunami.
“Residents ran from their houses in fear upon noticing the earthquake,” Togar, one of the local residents, said.
