The police stopped and searched motorcyclists on the border areas of Surakarta, Central Java, following a recent shooting incident that killed a policeman on Thursday evening.
The Karanganyar Police precinct deployed most of its officers to search all motorcyclists passing through Palur village, located east of the city, in the hope of arresting the gunmen before they left the city.
“We will check all motorcyclists, particularly those that are riding the same type of motorcycles that the perpetrators used,” said Karanganyar Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Nazirwan Adji Wibowo on Friday.
On Thursday evening, two unidentified gunmen shot dead Chief Brig. Dwi Data Soebekti, who was on night guard at the Singosaren police post. The perpetrators reportedly rode a Suzuki Smash motorcycle.
The incident is the third such shooting incident occurring in the city in the past few weeks. (yps/swd)
