An explosion that shook the Jayawijaya Legislative Council in Papua early on Saturday was not triggered by a bomb, as reported before, but a jerry can full of gasoline.

Jayawijaya Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Alvian said that based on the police’s preliminarily investigation, the fuel had been set alight, which caused the explosion and resulted in extensive damage to the ceilings and windows in two rooms inside the council building, Antara news agency reported on Saturday.

Alvian added that his unit was still questioning two witnesses in connection to the case. Meanwhile, Jayawijaya Police are also awaiting the results of a separate investigation into the incident by the Papua Police. (yps)
