AKARTA: Tommy Hindratno, a junior taxman who has been under arrest since June 7 for allegedly accepting a cash bribe from a businessman, is having his detention period extended for another 30 days.
Tommy’s lawyer, Arvid Martdwisaktyo, confirmed to reporters on Monday that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) had extended the detention period of his client.
KPK spokesman Johan Budi said that the extension was necessary for the KPK’s investigation.
The KPK alleged that Tommy accepted Rp 280 million (US$29,000) in bribes, but KPK investigators later found that Tommy had apparently accepted Rp 340 million.
The money was to pay for the issuance of a tax restitution for PT Bhakti Investama, which owes Rp 3.4 billion in overpaid taxes.
Tommy has been charged under Articles 5, 11, 12 and 13 of the Corruption Law against bribery.
