Your letters: Denny vs corruption

A- A A+

Paper Edition | Page: 8

Deputy Law and Human Rights Minister Denny Indrayana said in his twitter account: “Advocates who blindly defend corruptors are corruptors themselves.”

Lawyers were furious as we saw in a recent TV talk show.

Lawyers, like any other professionals, can be corrupt, even if they have nothing to do with corruptors. Corruption is everywhere.

Indonesia is the fourth most corrupt country in the world and the most corrupt in the Asia Pacific region.

Bung Hatta, co-founder of Indonesia stated in 1971 that corruption had already become a part of our culture. Corruption is committed everywhere, without a sense of shame or fear of punishment.

So, why the fuss about Denny’s statement?

What was most hurtful were the personal attacks of some lawyers. To use abusive and highly emotional words and absurdly humiliating Pak Denny in the talk show was regrettable.
