Personnel from the National Police's Densus 88 counterterrorism unit and the Maluku Police apprehended a terrorist suspect, identified only as S, 30, in Tual, Maluku on Thursday evening.
The counterterrorism unit alleged that S was suspected of possessing two firearms – of a type specifically used by police and the Indonesian Military (TNI) - one grenade and thousands of bullets, which were confiscated in Malintang Mountain in Batu Merah, Ambon, Maluku on Sunday.
S is currently being detained at Maluku Police headquarters in Ambon for questioning.
Maluku Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Johanis Huwae, however, declined to give further information about the arrest.
“I cannot comment on the arrest. Only Densus 88 can do that, which has information about it,” he said, as quoted by kompas.com.
The arrest of S took place only a few days after Densus 88 arrested six other terrorist suspects, who are also being held by Maluku Police in Ambon. (riz/lfr)
