Economy in brief: Honda sells 38,544 cars as of August

JAKARTA: PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM), a joint venture between Japan’s Honda Motor Co. and Indonesia’s Prospect Motor, says it booked total sales of 38,544 cars as of August this year, up 23 percent from the same period last year.
HPM’s marketing and after-sales service director, Jonfis Fandy, said the largest contributor to the company’s sales was the Honda Jazz hatchback, which accounted for 14,806 sales or 31 percent of the market share in the compact hatchback class.
“We are optimistic that sales will continue to increase by the end of the year, by the we plan to sell a total of 70,000 cars,” he said in a statement made available to The Jakarta Post.
The second best-seller was the Honda Freed minivan, with 12,442 sales or 13 percent of the market share in the minivan class.
HPM launched its first subcompact car, the Honda Brio, in early August, of which 1,062 have been sold. Last week, the firm introduced its fourth generation of its brand in the SUV class: All New Honda CR-V.
