One dead as fire razes Surabaya’s Turi Market

Surabaya: One person was killed after a fire on Sunday night razed 900 stalls in Turi Market in Surabaya, East Java, the largest wholesale center in eastern Indonesia.
One trader died and seven others were taken to the hospital with injuries, local Indonesian Red Cross chairman Agung Tri Jutanto said
“The seven injured people included five firefighters who suffered from respiratory problems,” Agung said.
The fire started at 9:15 p.m. on Sunday and was extinguished at 5 a.m. on Monday, according to reports.
More than 4,700 traders are said to be displaced by the fire. Damages have been estimated in the billions of rupiah.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation
